Tree Week - Free Trees and Planting Events
National Tree Week will take place from 7-13 March. The theme is ‘Twenty Ten – Plant Again’. We are asking everyone to make a renewed effort to go out and plant more trees during this week.
This year 15,000 trees, sponsored by Coillte will be distributed to community groups by local authorities all over the country.
South Tipperary County Council has teamed up with The Tree Council of Ireland again this year to raise awareness about trees and encourage local communities to plant trees in their local areas. To this end The Tree Council of Ireland through Coilte has donated 350 saplings to South Tipperary County Council for distribution to Community Groups and Schools. To avail of this offer contact the Environment Section on 1800 20 26 27.
The aim of National Tree Week is to raise awareness about trees and encourage local communities and local authorities to participate in over 300 events which will take place around the country during the week. Here in South Tipperary the Councils Heritage Officer, Labhaoise McKenna is supporting Aimsir Bia in their Free Community Workshops – Native and Fruit Tree Planting at Cashel Recycling Centre on Saturday 13th of March at 10.30am -12.30pm (native trees kindly donated by Coilte). And a workshop on Establishing a Native Hazel Copice Woodland at Cashel Recycling Centre on Thursday 11th March at 3 - 4.30pm. Come along to these free event to learn about planting your own native woodland and fruit trees.
By thinking locally, we can act globally!
All Tree Week events are free and everyone is welcome to attend.
