Economic Development
The Community and Enterprise Section promotes and manages a wide range of activities that can loosely be termed Economic Development. A key component of the approach of the section is the promotion of integrated programmes, where a number of agencies, local development companies and community come together to provide a service in a more consultative and integrated way.
Enterprise Support
The Enterprise Support measure was targeted at the Slieve Ardagh area in 2004 as the County Council's main contribution to an agreed County Development Board action to support the implementation of the Slieve Ardagh Plan. The relevant members of the County Development Board have committed to a five year programme of support to the action in order to test a model on developing enterprise in remote rural communities. An CDB Officials Group has been established to oversee the implementation of a business plan with prioritised actions relating to heritage tourism, information technology, catering skills and childcare services as well as targeting training supports from TEAGASC and Barrow Nore Suir Rural Development at those seeking more on-farm and off farm income. Co-ordination with Department of Social and Family Affairs and FAS initiatives is also well advanced. Tipperary Institute has agreed to oversee the evaluation of the action.

A Newcomers Guide to Tipperary and the South EastEconomic Initiatives
In 1998 it was considered appropriate and timely that a capital fund for the general support of enterprise development be established to further encourage investment activity and attract and facilitate vibrant enterprises. Projects supported under this fund include the Craft Granary in Cahir, enterprise centres in Ballingarry and Drangan, the war house project in the Commons, the hostel project and IT centre in Tipperary Town, the Ring a Link Rural transport initiative, the Clonmel Broadband Project and Carrick-on-Suir Marina project.
Further projects which may require support from the enterprise fund include business parks, roll out of broadband to other towns and the purchase of strategic sites to unlock economic development potential.
