Rapid

There are three designated RAPID areas in South Tipperary. These are Carrick-on-Suir, Tipperary Town and Clonmel Town. RAPID stands for Revitalising Areas Through Planning Investment and Development. This government programme is funded through the Department of Community Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs. RAPID aims to improve the quality of life and make opportunities available in 45 of Irelands most under resourced Towns and Cities.

RAPID aims to:

  • Increase the investment made by Government departments and state agencies in the 45 communities;
  • Improve the delivery of public services through integration and coordination
  • Enhance the opportunities for communities to participate in the strategic improvement of their areas.

RAPID is implemented locally by a cross-sectoral Area Implementation Team (AIT) and is supported by a RAPID Coordinator. The City/County Development Board manages the programme locally. The RAPID National Monitoring Committee chaired by Minister Eamon O Cuiv manages the programme nationally.

Tipperary Town Social Research Study

Tipperary Town Social Research Study was commissioned by the Tipperary RAPID Programme and Knockanrawley Resource Centre (KRC), funded through the Dormant Accounts Fund. The purpose of the research is to provide an up-to-date profile of Tipperary Town that can be used to make the case for further resources and development in the area, as opportunities present themselves, and particularly in relation to national Government funding lines. It will also inform the future plans of the RAPID Programme, Knockanrawley Resource Centre, and other interested parties in the Town.
