Electoral Register


Age: A person must be at least 18 years of age on the day the Register comes into force (15th February). A person may be included on a Supplement to the Register on reaching 18 years of age after 15th February. Every resident aged 18 and upwards is entitled to be on the Register or the Supplement.

Citizenship: A person's citizenship determines the election a person may vote at.

The right to vote is as follows:Irish Citizen:

May vote at every election and referendum. British Citizen: May vote at Dail, European and Local Elections. Other EU Citizen: May vote at European and Local Elections. Non-EU Citizen: May vote at local elections only.

Residence: A person must be ordinarily resident at the address in question and may register at one address only.

SUPPLEMENT TO THE REGISTER OF ELECTORS

If a person is not included in the Register of Electors currently in force but considers that he/she qualifies for registration, the person may apply for entry in a supplement to the register. In order to qualify, a person must meet the citizenship, residence and age requirements which apply to the register concerned. Applications for entry in the supplement must be received by South Tipperary County Council at least 14 days, disregarding Sundays and Bank Holidays, before an election or referendum. The closing date for entry to the Postal/Special Voters list is two days after the polling day order is made or the date of dissolution of the Dail. Persons entered in the supplement are entitled to vote at elections/referenda held during the life of the register. A Supplement to the 2004/2005 Register of Electors was prepared and published on 31st May, 2004, for use in the Local and European Elections held on 11th June, 2004. A total of 3207 electors were included in this Supplement comprising of new electors and existing electors who had changed residence.

CHANGE OF RESIDENCE

A person who is on a Register of Electors and moves residence from one constituency to another or within a constituency (different local electoral area) may apply for entry to the Supplement at their new address provided the person authorises the Registration Authority to delete their name from the Register of Electors for the area in which the person is registered.

POSTAL, SPECIAL VOTERS

Provision is also made to enable those unable to attend to vote in person, to vote by postal or special arrangement subject to certain conditions.

EDITED REGISTER OF ELECTORS FOR NON STATUTORY USE

The Register contains names and addresses of persons who indicate that their details can be used for a purpose other than electoral or other statutory use, e.g. for direct marketing use by a commercial or other organisation.Any person may inspect the register or draft register during normal working hours at the offices of South Tipperary County Council, Clonmel Borough Council, Tipperary, Cashel and Carrick-on-Suir Town Councils, Cahir Area Office, Public Libraries, Post Offices and Garda Stations or online through the eReg system.The Register of Electors for 2005/2006 had a total Electorate of 64,917 and a breakdown of the total electorate in each local electoral area is as follows:-
