Fire & Building Control

South Tipperary Fire Service maintains round the clock emergency cover to protect life and property. There are five fire stations in the county based at:

  • Cahir
  • Carrick-on-Suir
  • Cashel
  • Clonmel
  • Tipperary Town

The fire fighters based at these Stations undergo continuous training to ensure that the service we provide is of the highest possible standard. In addition, fire officers are available to give fire safety advice and to ensure that standards are properly maintained to ensure public safety. On average the fire service attends 850 - 900 incidents per year.

The fire service headquarters is based at Heywood Road, Clonmel. These offices administer all items relating to the operational fire service, fire safety, building control, emergency planning and petroleum licensing.

The time has come to once again launch South Tipperary Fire and Rescue Service’s annual Primary Schools Programme “Safety Team Programme”. Hundreds of third class students attending the 91 primary schools in South Tipperary are set to receive a Fire Safety awareness lesson, delivered by Firefighters from across the County, courtesy of South Tipperary Fire and Rescue Service. The presentation aims to teach children the following aspects of Fire Safety in the Home

  • The importance of owning sufficient, properly fitted and regularly tested smoke alarms.
  • The importance of a night-time routine check
  • The importance of escape plans and regular rehearsals.
  • The correct actions to be taken if in a fire situation.
  • The correct procedure for calling the emergency services (999/112).
  • Depending on the history of the area
  • The dangers and consequences of “Hoax Calls”

“Encouraging children to think about Fire safety as their Safety is becoming even more important than ever . “The ‘Safety Team’ programme has been specially designed for children to ensure we educate them in the most effective and efficient way possible encouraging their participation and interaction at every stage of the programme”

Every child who attends a presentation will be presented with a copy of the ‘Safety Team’ pack, which contains various fire safety advice, stickers, games and home checks to interact with their families and bring the Fire Safety message home.. It’s about educating the children so that they in turn educate their families, making children the ambassadors of Fire Safety in the Home”.
