Housing

In the past few years the demand for the range of housing services provided by the Council increased considerably. The Council has reacted to this by vigorously promoting the broad range of initiatives available to it. Land acquisition is seen as pivotal in enabling the Council to deliver on its housing programme. We have therefore continued to acquire land at various locations around the county ranging from major urban centres to small villages.

Lands have been acquired in areas such as Cashel, Carrick-on-Suir, Tipperary, Donohill, Fethard, Ballynonty, Mullinahone, Bansha, Emly and Annacarty. In view of the key role which land plays in facilitating the development of the full range of housing options, we will actively pursue the acquisition of lands.

Local authorities also have a wide range of powers to secure accommodation for homeless people. In addition to the direct provision of housing, local authorities can make arrangements with voluntary organizations to make accommodation available for homeless people, provide financial or other assistance to homeless people and, if necessary, arrange private accommodation.
