Fethard Walled Towns – Medieval Festival
On Sunday 24th August a Medieval festival will be held in Fethard town to celebrate Irish Walled Towns Day, with events to suit all ages.The day will commence at 11am with the launch of an exhibition of ceramic works by Doirin Saurus and her students in the Town Hall.
During the day there will be a talk and tour of the local flora and fauna by Shay Hurley and Liam Burke. A parade through the town is scheduled to start at 2pm and will feature heraldic shields made by local primary school children, hunting horns and Irish Wolfhounds.
The parade will culminate in a medieval fair by the town walls to include events such as battle re enactments and traditional craft stalls such as silver smithing, weaving, wood carving and turning, basket making, leather working, butter making, willow work and a Farmers market. There will also be street entertainers including puppeteers, a chance to try your hand at archery, music by local bands and The Lee Valley Band as well as visiting Medieval French musicians. Food will be available on the day. A large colourful shell mandala will be created by the Town Wall during the day also.
A new edition to this years programme is the hosting of a Medieval Musical Recital on Saturday evening 23rd August, in the Holy Trinity Church Fethard. Well know musician Paul Dooley will perform at this special event. Entry is €12, spaces are limited so come early to avoid disappointment.

In con junction with the day South Tipperary County Museum are hosting a colouring competition for 6+ year olds.
1. Entries are available from the County Museum, Mick Delahunty Square and in Local Newspapers.
2. Completed entries must be submitted to the County Museum by 4pm on Saturday 16th August.
3. Make sure to put name, address and telephone number on reverse.
4. The use of crayons, markers, colouring pencils and paint is permitted.

6. Select either the picture of the Withdrawing Room or Clifford Knight at Tournament as the entry into the Competition.
7. The competition is open to 6+ year olds.
8. Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd subject to sufficient entries. Judges decision is final.
Keep The Faith – County Heritage Day
Bring the family to Cashel on Saturday 30th August to discover more about South Tipperary’s religious past. Bru Boru will play host to this free event focusing on religion in South Tipperary, as part of Heritage Week celebrations. Following the success of last years Military Day in Ormonde Castle this years County Heritage Day will have dedicated events for both children and adults.
The day will commence at 10am with a series of talks on different aspects of religion over the centuries including Pre Christian Tipperary, The Quakers, Cashel the Religious Centre and Religious Architecture in the County.
Simultaneous events for children include a time line project and a tour of The Rock of Cashel. Then it’s out and about for all in the afternoon with a choice of guided walks for the adults and a treasure hunt for the kids. Adult walks to choose from include The Bolton Library & St. John’s Cathedral, The Rock of Cashel, Cashel Town or Abbeys of Cashel, including Athassel Abbey. All tours last approx one hour. Please note that as afternoon events are out of doors suitable clothing and footwear must be worn.
