

An annual scheme of grants is operated by South Tipperary County Council to assist the owner or occupier of a protected structure to undertake necessary works to secure its conservation. Each local authority will prioritise applications on the basis of its Scheme of Priorities.
The standard amount of grant is 50% of the approved cost of works, up to a maximum of €13,000. South Tipperary County Council may, at its discretion, vary this amount downwards or, in exceptional circumstances, upwards, subject to a maximum allowable grant of 75% of the approved cost of works, or €25,000, whichever is the lesser.
Applications were invited under the 2011 Conservation Grant Scheme however The Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government have notified South Tipperary County Council by letter dated 30th March 2011 (see below) that the operation of the Local Authority Conservation Grants Scheme has been paused and funds will not be made available under this Scheme for 2011.

Thatching Grants
A grant of two thirds of the approved cost, up to a maximum of €3,810, is available from the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government towards the cost of renovating thatched roofs of owner occupied houses. A higher level of assistance of up to €5,714 is available for houses on specified offshore islands. Householders with a medical card may be eligible for thatching grants up to a maximum of €6,350 (or €8,253 in the case of houses on the offshore islands). In such cases the grant may cover up to 80% of the approved cost of works subject to the maximum grant.
