Local Area Plans

The Planning and Development Act 2000-2007 provides that a planning authority may prepare a local area plan for any area within its jurisdiction for which it considers such a plan to be suitable, and in particular for those areas that require economic, physical and social renewal, and for areas likely to be subject to large scale development within the lifetime of the development plan. A planning authority is obliged to prepare a local area plan for an area which;

  • is designated as a town in the most recent census of population, other than a town designated as a suburb or environs in that census,
  • has a population in excess of 2,000 persons, and
  • is situated within the functional area of a planning authority that is a county council

Having regard to the above provisions South Tipperary County Council has prepared Local Area Plans for the following settlements;

Limerick Junction
Holycross
Knocklofty
Marlfield
